Administrators, Directors, &
Superintendents

You must know literacy theory and practice to guide you as a leader, gatekeeper, and decision-maker.  The PCL Model provides professional learning and support through several services you agree to participate in when you become a PCL school or district.  You are an important layer in the system.

Services for Administrators

Onboarding for New Administrators

New administrators must attend summer onboarding sessions, which we call BootCamp, to understand their role and responsibilities for implementing the Partnerships in Comprehensive Literacy Model and Comprehensive Intervention Model.  We want to get you started with the knowledge you need to be successful.

Network of Literacy Administrators (NLA)

Research on the relationship between district and site administrators' roles and student achievement is clear. Literacy administrators must receive ongoing support to ensure they can learn, develop, and support each other as they implement the Comprehensive Literacy Model and Comprehensive Intervention Model.

NLA occurs three times per year. The Fall and Spring sessions are held on-site in one of the affiliated Wisconsin schools, which provides opportunities to visit classrooms and network in person. A Winter session is held virtually.

A district should send a team to NLA, including Directors of Instruction and Pupil Services, Building Administrators, Literacy Coaches, and CIM Specialists. The day includes conversations around learning and planning.

3

Summer Institute

The Summer Institute is a national virtual gathering for the PCL and CIM Models.  The Instutute occurs in June so that schools can send a team that includes classroom teachers, administrators, coaches, and interventionists.   This is important so that the team has opportunities to debrief and consider implications from teh learning on teh coming school year.

The two-day Summer Institute features keynotes by the nation's top researchers followed by break-out sessions by authors and practioners to move research and theory to practice in schools, classrooms, and interventions.

4

Director of Instructor Networking Meetings

Four times per year, we provide an opportunity for Directors to network virtually.  They set the agenda in order to ask each other questions, problem-solve, and share experiences in a job-alike setting.

5

Comprehensive Literacy Learning Network (CLLN)

While not required of administrators, we encourage you to attend at least the morning of these powerful learning days.  Four times per year, the entire national network gathers for a morning presentation by a leading literacy researcher.  In the afternoon, we shift focus on how the research applies to the PCL/CIM models, making it practical. We often observe and discuss teaching episodes during the afternoon.  Districts are offered breakout rooms at strategic points throughout the day to consolidate learning across the team, consider local applications, and set goals for implementation.

CLLN is the national affiliation with the PCL Model.  Schools affiliating at the state level must also affiliate at the national level through CLLN.  Registration provides access to anyone in the school district.

Personalized Services

We also offer services personalized to your school or district needs.  For example:

  • Professional development sessions from K-12 for the district, school, grade level, department, or a smaller team.

  • We can consult on any aspect of the PCL and CIM Models, from planning to problem-solving.

  • There are team members with credentials and experience in leading curriculum design, writing, and vetting.

  • Site visits provide you with a set of eyes and experience from outside your own district.  We can help arrange a visit to a neighboring affiliated district, or we can walk through schools with an agreed-upon lens and provide feedback and next steps.
